The hotel is situated only a few minutes walk from the centre of the village, where you will find plenty of gift shops, restaurants, traditional pubs, cafes and galleries. Depending on the tides and weather you may also encounter local fishermen landing their catches. They still mend their nets and make crab pots in a traditional way on the quayside.

Places To Visit

Porthleven with its historic harbour is beautifully situated in the middle of Mounts Bay. Therefore it is ideal for visiting sites like Lands End; St Michael's Mount and the Lizard Peninsular. Porthleven's location is also a great starting point for visiting West Cornwall's major market towns like Penzance, Truro, Helston, and Falmouth. Porthleven and Cornwall's long history with the sea can be found almost anywhere. Mounts Bay is littered with wrecks of boats from all eras, the treacherous rocks, reefs and violent winter storms all played their part in the disastrous fate of many a ship.

Loe Bar

One mile to the east of Porthleven lies Loe Pool a fresh water lake separated from the sea by a sand bar, which occurred after a great storm. Legend says that King Arthur's sword "Excalibar" lies at the bottom of the lake.

Situated At The Centre Of Mounts Bay

Smuggling was also big business in this part of Cornwall and the countless coves and caves make Mounts Bay the perfect place to smuggle wine, tobacco and spirits into the country from the Continent. All in all, the romance and the wild and beautiful landscape will make Porthleven the idyllic setting for your own seaside adventure.

How To Find An Mordros Hotel

AnMordrosOutsideTN.gif

Directions: By road: From Helston or Penzance take the Porthleven junction, (that is sign posted). Travel into the village centre where the harbour is situated. There you will find the Harbour Inn, continue past the Inn and take the first left up "Salt Cellar Hill" (very steep). At the top take a very sharp right onto Peverell Terrace and the An Mordros Hotel is a 100 yards up the hill on the left.
